Exciting New Workshop: “Behind the Screen”

Suitable for Year 6 age children

Dear Colleagues,

We’re excited to announce a brand-new, engaging one-hour workshop designed for Year 6 age pupils: “Behind the Screen.” Led by Christina James (RMN) and actress Sally Hyde Lomax, this interactive session explores the real-life impact of social media on how we view and treat others—and how to stay safe and kind online.

What’s involved

  • Audience: Year 6 pupils

  • Duration: 60 minutes

  • Format: Interactive, fun, and awareness-based with a live “social media experiment”

  • Presenters: Christina James and Sally Hyde Lomax (both Enhanced DBS checked)

  • Location: Delivered in school, adaptable to PSHE or digital awareness programmes

Workshop highlights

  • How social media shapes perceptions and treatment of others

  • The real impact of online comments and the power of perceptions

  • Practical, age-appropriate strategies for staying safe online and showing kindness

  • A captivating activity: two classrooms participate in a short social media “experiment”

    • Group A believes they’ll meet a performer from a video post

    • Group B does not have this context

    • When they come together, the influence of context on reactions becomes clear

  • Guided discussion on empathy, online behavior, and digital safety

Why this is impactful

  • Builds digital resilience: equips pupils with practical tools to navigate online spaces responsibly

  • Encourages empathy: shows how context shapes judgment and reinforces respectful communication

  • Supports PSHE/Digital Wellbeing objectives: aligns with safeguarding and anti-bullying initiatives

  • Flexible delivery: suitable for year groups within a school’s timetable, with potential to cover multiple classes in a single day

Who should consider this

  • Primary schools seeking innovative PSHE or digital safety programming

  • After-school programs and youth organizations looking to enhance digital wellbeing curricula

  • Community groups and youth clubs aiming to empower young people with online safety skills

Next steps

  • If you’d be open to a quick chat to discuss suitability, we can tailor the outline to your timetable and pupil needs.

  • We’d be happy to provide the full course outline for review and customization.
